Salt Glazed Bowl.

A salt glazed Bowl with Hakeme. I have fired these bowls one inside the other separated by sea shells. The rich orange colour is a result of the iron from the body, the alumina in the white slip and the restricted access of the vapour.

Chawan.  Nuka Glaze.

A Chawan with a Nuka Glaze. The very high iron content body ahs had an effect on the colour and texture of the glaze. This bowl was an unexpected but very welcome surprise!

Salt glazed Yunomi.

I often fired salt glazed pieces in a sagger to promote the rich orange colour. Too much salt vapour and the colour would tend toward tan or brown rather than orange.

I have glazed this yunomi with an ash glaze and then placed it in the salt kiln. The fluxing action of the sodium from the salt has produced this variegated, fluid surface. Comes with a signed and stamped wooden box.

Ash Glazed Lidded Jar.

Originally this lidded Jar was sent to Japan as a Mizusashi or water jar for use in the tea ceremony. As a lidded Jar it could be used for any number of purposes. Pine ash glaze with an impressed decoration.

A salt glazed bottle fired on its side resting on Scallop shells. I have glazed the neck and  shoulder with an ash glaze which has trickled down in the white heat of the kiln.

On this page I will be listing pieces that are available for you to purchase. I will try to give a brief description of the glazes etc. involved and the size. I am very careful only to choose pieces that I am entirely confident in. BUT, if a piece does not meet with expectation I will always take it back or exchange it for another. I do appreciate that it isn’t easy to buy pots from photographs. Having said that, I have never had one returned after more than 100 sales from this page.
