H250 A Plate by Hamada Shoji.
Hamada has first coated the plate with a thin slip made from a local clay or ochre. It is iron bearing and provides a background for the trailed Nuka and Tenmoku glazes. Hamada was very adept at trailing glazes from a ladle. The patterns were influenced by the English slipware he encountered during his time in the UK in the early 1920’s. I think this piece to be a very good example of his trailing technique….the pattern is sure and the lines full without being too thick.
9.6 inches across.
Come with a signed and sealed wooden box.
