HJ2 A box.
A box with an impressed surface. Buncheong slip and glaze.
These boxes are carved from a solid block of clay. Then, after hollowing out the inside of both box and lid a retaining lip is applied. It is a time consuming process. The pattern is applied while the box is solid and is taken by impressing the clay onto a very large plaster slab which I have carved into the surface with patterns derived from nature and William Morris. The slab measures 2ft 6″ by 14″ and the whole surface is carved which allows me to vary the patterns I put onto the boxes.
2.75 inches x 2.5 inches x 2.1 inches tall.
