H121 A plate. Tenmoku with kaki glaze trailing.
Hamada called these plates ‘speciality of the house’. Tenmoku with kaki glaze trailed over. Hamada became a master of this trailing technique. He used a ladle and a confident arm….the technique has its roots in the English slipware tradition. Hamada was exposed to slipware during his time in St Ives during the 1920’s.
