H142    A plate by Hamada Shoji.

The Kaki glaze is synonymous with Mashiko and particularly with Hamada’s work. It is made from only one ingredient…a local building stone that is ground to a fine powder and used as an overglaze on top of a clear ash celadon. This plate carries Hamada’s iconic ‘broken straw’ pattern in an inverted image. Hamada used this decorative pattern many times on a variety of plates sometimes using iron pigment with nuka glaze.

Comes with wooden box that carries Hamada seal mark.

10.6 inches across
