H278   A Drawing in ink by Shoji Hamada.

Hamada was a respected calligrapher and a fine draughtsman.  The drawings that filled his sketchbooks of various craft pieces…not just ceramics but furniture, carvings, patterns….. that he saw on his travels around the world together with the many examples of his drawings and sketches of his own ideas are quite exquisite.

This drawing is one of his square plates with the ‘broken straw’ motif.   Signed and sealed.

10.5 x 9.5 inches.
