HJ185   An enamel decorated yunomi by Tatsuzo Shimaoka.

No box with this one but it really doesn’t need one. It is absolutely typical of Shimaoka with an enameled motif that he used often in conjunction with kaki glaze.

Shimaoka was well known for his rope impressed decorations…indeed, in 1996 he was awarded the status of National Living Treasure in recognition of this aspect of his work. Enamel decoration was something he used a lot and this pattern was possibly his most used motif. It appears as enamel decoration, as an  inlaid decoration and as sgraffito.

Here is a similarly decorated yunomi featuring the same motif    https://maaklondon.irostrum.com/BiddingProcess/BiddingScreen/6316?pageNumber=3

3.25 inches tall.
