S55   A Yunomi by Shimaoka Tatsuzo.

Much of Shimaoka’s decorative style was based upon Korean ceramics. In Korea white slip had been used in the 15th and 16th centuries to decorate pots in a variety of different ways. Shimaoka used white slip to inlay his rope patterns and incised motifs. Here he has used white slip as hakeme and then painted motifs in iron pigment on top.

3.5 inches tall.   Comes with a signed and sealed wooden box.
